Having a healthy local church Series – part 2
Preached at Minden Baptist Church
(4/11/2018 → 16/12/2018)
Paul who writes this short letter to Titus at the church on the island of Crete covers in a condensed form the same formula as he did to Timothy at Ephesus in southern Turkey.
Titus is part 2 in the healthy church series, not 2 Timothy as one might expect. 1 & 2 Timothy and Titus are referred to as the Pastoral Epistles because Paul wrote letters to Timothy at Ephesus and Titus at Crete concerning pastoral care and the health of the churches that he had planted. Paul wrote 1 Timothy after the events of Acts 28 when Paul was imprisoned for the first time. But this imprisonment apparently ended in his freedom and it was during this time around AD 65 that Paul commissioned Timothy to the church at Ephesus and Titus to the church at Crete. From Macedonia, Paul wrote the first letter to Timothy, and then shortly after he wrote to Titus on a very similar subject. In fact, the letter to Titus is like a condensed form of Paul's letter to Timothy so it covers the same subjects in how to do pastoral ministry better and how to have a healthy church that he himself was no longer directly overseeing.
