The Will of God Series

God has a job for us to do
Preached at Minden Baptist Church
(8/4/2018 → 27/5/2018)

What is the book of Jonah about?  It is about the will of God and how we respond to what God has for us in our lives.  God has something for us in our lives and He wants us to respond accordingly.  The four chapters in the book of Jonah can be divided into four sections…

  1. Running away from the will of God.
  2. Running into the will of God.
  3. Running with the will of God.
  4. Running ahead of the will of God.

The name ‘Jonah’ means dove.  Jonah was dovish or gentle in his dealings with Israel and in following God’s will in going to Nineveh to preach God’s message to them.  God had a job for Jonah, the dove, to take the message of repentance outside the borders of Israel of his own people to the Assyrians who lived in the great city of Nineveh or modern day Mosul in northern Iraq.

God has a job for us too as His people to take this message of repentance to foreign lands and great foreign cities.
