Doomsday clock
Reports by media outlets that the Chicago-based Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists Science and Security Board today moved the Doomsday Clock 20 seconds closer to midnight—closer to apocalypse than ever.
"Humanity continues to face two simultaneous existential dangers—nuclear war and climate change—that are compounded by a threat multiplier, cyber-enabled information warfare, that undercuts society’s ability to respond. The international security situation is dire, not just because these threats exist, but because world leaders have allowed the international political infrastructure for managing them to erode."
Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists
The world knows that something is up. We face many dangers to our world today and the Bible agrees. The city of Damascus in Syria and cities also in the northern part of Israel are prophesied to be completely and utterly destroyed in Isaiah 17. To my knowledge, this has never happened before in a complete sense in history. If it hasn’t yet happened then it is Bible prophecy.
Something will have to change if we are to go to Israel then Jordan
If we as Christians are meant to escape to the wilderness in southern Jordan for the last 1290 days of the period of the Great Tribulation then political developments need to occur between now and then that will allow us first to proceed to Israel. And why Israel first? Because Matthew instructs all of those in Judea when the Abomination of Desolation comes onto the scene at the halfway point, to flee to the mountains.1 Of course the only mountain range close enough and that is surely referred to are the mountains across the Jordan Valley and the Dead Sea to the east.
But for Christians to be able to enter Israel before they cross to Jordan something needs to change. At this present time, I believe that Israel does not allow Christians to live and migrate to the Promised Land even if they can prove that they have Jewish ancestry.
Could a nuclear exchange be the catalyst to change the politics? If Syria, Damascus, and the northern part of Israel are devastated by a limited nuclear exchange from Iran then that could change everything. Israel wouldn’t exactly be a desirable place for people to migrate to but such a nuclear disaster might change the current rules which in turn could open up the way for Christians to be closer to the end-game in the middle of the seven year tribulation period.
Iran is an existential threat to Israel
It’s interesting that Iran has really been in the headlines in recent years. Throughout 2019, Iran increased its stockpile of low-enriched uranium, increased its uranium enrichment levels, and added new and improved centrifuges, according to Bulletin.org.2 I would see Iran, in the current political climate, as being the most likely existential threat to Israel and/or Syria.
We live in interesting and dangerous times. On the Doomsday clock, we are only 100 seconds away from disaster – closer to apocalypse than ever before. But these are all signs and warnings for us as Christians, to watch and pray.3 We need to keep our finger on the pulse and pray that we make the right choices as we move closer and closer towards the apocalyptic metaphorical midnight. Firstly that means enduring to the end in our faith for he who endures to the end will be saved,4 secondly it means watching out for scams and deceptions,5 and thirdly it means being ready to go when we are asked to flee.
